A sparky using the new heights on an extension (when not required).
It looks odd. Combining the two switches would also have been better!

Yeah - is this common practice now? I have always used metal back boxes.
 
I think it usually happens when the socket is screwed to the surface first (because the customer was too cheap to have it flush mounted or whatever) and then the tiler comes along later and just works arround what is present.
 
I've found in extensions people like sockets at part M heights, but do not like light switches where they aren't used to finding them!
 
I've never put sockets at the new heights on extensions, refurbs etc or ever been questioned on it, although a few people have mentioned other sparks do insist.

Political correctness gone mad- I do work for a chain of bicycle shops, one has to put a wheelchair ramp and a wheelchair user assistance doorbell in. If thats not stupid enough in itself, this particular shop specialises in 3 grand bicycles designed for going down the side of a mountain at 900mph.
