Got to agree.....although the digital has to win me over I will always use film as first choice

i'm big into my photography,, just not very good at the technical stuff... wanting to learn tho. I usually post in th Audio Visual forum... a couple of total stars in there with a mine of information and help...

The film style can be emulated in software :P

I can't understand the reasoning for even a slight preference for film, or even ektachrome/transparency as its an old technology and akin to having a preference to parchment and a feather instead of paper and a biro

And I am the opposite with regard to automatic/manual control. I want a picture and not an over/underexposed missed opportunity, so I am happy for the camera to do the work (that's what I paid for) and me just to compose and press the button at the right moment. Then, any slight adjustments can be done in software

Woody.....you are probably right ...but the phrase " old dogs new tricks " comes to mind with me anyhow

I just resent the fact that after spending what, £10 or so (1980's money) on a film and developing, most of the prints I got back were crap

So nowadays, my photography has not improved, but the cost of deleting files is easier to bear.

Have to agree woody...that's what I love about digital...you can take a hundred pics and then just pick a few that you like.
I used one of those throw away cameras on holiday once and got about one that I liked out of the whole lot.

I think cameras on phones, and how many people especially the kids are recording stuff, their daily lives, is brilliant. I've seen some mundane subjects turned into really artistic and interesting photos, just by having the phone at the right time and at the right angle

I'm also getting very fond of the old lomo/vintage effects common on phones too

BTW, I'm not sure if this works for all phones, but if you download the Dropbox Android App (latest beta version), and upload images to their online storage via the phone, then you will get 5gb free . That's 7gb in total to use as you like afterwards. You get the extra space in chunks of 250mb as you upload more files

I use Dropbox a lot too...it makes it very easy to transfer photos from camera to computer to laptop and to ipad...one move and it 'shares' with all

Its excellent and its free.

i'm very lucky i have a photographic memory, and don't need snaps to remind me.

How do you show off your holiday snaps then Eddie? How do you show the kids pictures of themselves when they were younger? You get sillier by the week.
