Well folks, it's that time of the week again!

This week we have a lift supply.

It is fed in 6.0mm² 4 core SWA.

Isolator: (I removed the cover / fuses / shrouds, but not the middle flash pad)

Supply cable: (blue bared longer for photographic purposes)

Strangely the green goo was only present on the blue conductor.

The middle fuse, is it a piece of fuse wire or just a piece of copper wire?

What is that green goo ? recently did a job at a hospital and there was this goo running down the wall from a few odd sockets here and there.

With ref to the fuse carrier, just thought id mention that the white material should not be removed by the public or contractor for that matter as it more likely than not contains ASBESTOS, if you change the switch then it should be securely placed inside a robust rubble bag, taped shut and disposed of at your local council tip, in the correct asbestos waste container. If you are keeping the swith in place then to temporaryly seal the asbestos water down some pva and apply liberally to the material etc, this will effectively seal the asbestos until it can be removed.

Remember chaps asbestos is a killer, may be not now or tomorrow but in years to come.

Where does the 1.5? go that's connected to L1?

Well spotted.

It is a 1.0mm² 3 core flex. It supplied the lift motor room light and a twin socket.

The middle fuse, is it a piece of fuse wire or just a piece of copper wire?

From left to right:

1no. 20A fusewire
2no. strands of copper wire. Possibly strands from a 2.5mm² flex?
2no. pieces of 5A fusewire twisted together

Some interesting info here about green slime

Certainly is.

From what I can gather, the flash pad was remover by an asbestos co. for sample analysis.

More worryingly, the brake for the lift motor has what appear to be asbestos brake pads.

Hi. I can't see the neutral from the lift motor, I can see neutral from supply and neutral from light and socket in 1.0mm to neutral block?

Dan

So at source it's fused at the same rating as what's (supposed to be) in the switchfuse?

The switch fuse was rated at 30A, and fitted with 20A fuses.

Discrimination anybody

1.0mm² on a 20A rewirable supplying a light and a double socket, not isolated by the isolater it comes from.

What could go wrong?
