I’ve spent hours looking at different types of asbestos insulating wrap. I’m cautiously optimistic that this degraded brown fibrous wrap with a smoothed surface, around boiler pipes from possibly 100 years ago (106 year old home), doesn’t seem to resemble any asbestos products... Your opinions and experience are much appreciated!!!

If that was in the house when it was built then I doubt it would be asbestos as it wasnt used back then, however theres every possibility the house has undergone renovation since it was built, so it could be something added at a later date.

There are a lot of labs you can send a sample off to that get you fast results and doesnt cost a fortune to do, when I last looked I think it was about 30 to 40 quid per sample, seeing as youd only need one to be sure that's not a terrible price to put on piece of mind.

If it were me, I'd have it tested to be sure. Dont want to find out it was asbestos 30 years down the line.

There was asbestos paper and card from that time, so best get it checked. Plus that rope material.

Looks to be lagging steel or cast pipework, which would likely have been a later addition to the building. It looks fibrous, I'd get it checked to confirm for peace of mind if nothing else.
