Can anyone please advise. I'm fitting a replacement pir floodlight and the one that was there before had three connectors with a 4th brown wire in a connector block.
The new pir has four connector from left to right LS,N,E and L
The wires that come out of the wall are black, grey, neutral (not sleeved) and brown.
As much as i scratch my head nothing practical is happening.
Any help would be appreciated.

Right, first of all,

The bare wire is an earth wire. It should be sleeved with green and yellow sleeving. If it is not, go and get some for it.

I'm going to ASSuME this:

On your old fitting, the brown was in a connector on it's own

The earth was connected to E
The black was connected to L
The grey was connected to N

Can you please confirm this is correct

Got some sleeving today for E.
Yes, they were. The wires are all doubled up so there are two of everything.

Forgot to mention that the switch is a three gang for the floodlight.

Switch, you didnt mention a switch before, only the wires that come out of the wall - I assume to connect to the PIR.

Is there something that you're not telling us?

The switch for the pir is a three gang that also serves the toilet and utility room.

Why are you mentioning the switch? Have you removed it?

No the switch is intack, although I did open it to take a look at the wiring to see if it would give me a clue about the wires for the pir light.

And what did you find? Where are the wires terminated?

It is a three gang GET switch. It looks like L1 L2 and Com.

Could not pull it all the way as the wires are pretty tight.

This has already been confirmed:
On your old fitting, the brown was in a connector on it's own

The earth was connected to E
The black was connected to L
The grey was connected to N

For the new fitting, the black is the switched live (SL) and the brown therefore is the permanent live (L).
The black should have brown sleeving, and the grey should have blue sleeving.

Thanks to everyone who has helped so far it is appreciated.
Can you tell me why there are two cables with two of each wire.

The pir has just one light, although the three gang switch has two sets of lights on it as well as the pir.

Thanks to all who gave advice.
I now have a new problem although still with the pir. Both of the pir's work except they are permanently on.
I've connected the black to LS, brown to L, grey (sleeved blue now) to N and the green sleeved to E.
Have I got the black and brown the wrong way around or should the black go into a connector block.
