The difference is the Steinel does not false trigger every 10 minutes and is not affected by movement from a nearby Acer tree.

Sorry Andy, I'd already picked that up from you; I was wondering why from the other guys that could explain why they worked diffrently. It's the nerd in me I'm afraid.
 
Maybe the first one would have "worked" with the lens completely covered - i.e. it is faulty.
 
I'm not saying that the relationship is linear, nor that it necessarily always exists at all.

But it might be worth at least considering if there are good reasons for these differences:

You failed to highlight the fact it has less than a 2-Star rating. For something to be that badly rewiewed on SF it must be shocking.

I suspect a percentage of the extra you pay for Steinel is paying for the name. But it’s not like paying for the name with MK. You actually do get decent gear.
