Hi,
Can anyone recommend an external PIR to switch around 300watts of lighting? I am looking for a good quality unit with adjustable sensitivity as well as the usual daylight and time adjustment.

The current PIR I have is from Screwfix http://www.screwfix.com/p/180-standalone-pir/36316 and switches on every time a cat walks past or a tree branch moves!

I know you can get ‘petsafe’ sensors for alarm systems, but I’ve not seen anything similar for outside. Its mounted on a bungalow overlooking the garden so it’s hard to position elsewhere. Thanks.

All PIRs will respond to changes in heat patterns. Wildlife, including burglars, waving bushes, heat extracts etc can all cause the unit to trigger.

You can restrict the detect shape and range with most PIRs by blanking out certain segments.

I have found Steinel PIRs a good bet, but more expensive than others.

All of the "Pet Friendly" PIRs that I have seen are those that are used with intruder alarms (12v systems).

Not Sentinel, Steinel!

The last Steinel PIR I put up was the IS 180, and it was a cracker!
