Hi,

Can someone help me with some ideas? I want something in here overflowing at the bottom and some lovely roses coming up the trellis. Something that I can plant shortly and will last. Any ideas?

Also, I'm worried about the security of the thing. Do people put heavy bricks or similar in these things as a deterrent? Its not in a place where I can chain it down.

Thanks in advance

Matt

Roses would look great on that trellis, but they do need plenty of nutrients and space for their roots, and I'm not convinced that that planter is necessarily large enough - especially if you also put in other things around the bottom.

So if you do go for roses, choose a small one and don't put much else in. And add plenty of grow more and fresh compost each year. Otherwise, maybe a clematis? Again check carefully about the size.

Around the bottom, a selection of bulbs chosen so that there is always something in flower would be one option, I.e. Snowdrops, tulips, alliums, lilies. Or wait a few more weeks until the garden centres are full of plug-plant annuals.

Re security, not much you can do as attempted theft will leave it trashed anyway.

Great thanks for the advice. I'm going up the garden centre tomorrow morning. I'll post a picture!

In my opinion, the planter is not deep enough and will dry out very quickly. You could build your own planter just google 'building planter with trellis'.
