Hi
We've removed all the wallpaper in the room which we are getting re-plastered by a plasterer. The wallpaper was damaged by damp and I wonder if there is anything we can do to protect the new plaster from damp? Either before or after plastering. Or should we use a specific plaster?

Also, there are some bits of the wall that are painted and some (under bay window) where it's a wood panel. How to we prep those bits before the plasterer come? Or will he do that?

Thanks!

you have to find the cause of the damp and fix it.

the most common cause is condensation, resulting from hanging wet washing around the home and/or insufficient ventilation.

but round a window it could be rain penetration, especially if a bay

post photos and descriptions of the damp. Including the outside and the roof and gutter.

Blocked gutters or leaky flashings are often culprits.

OP,
Read back and research your issues on previous threads on here and the building forum.
Then come back with the relevant & variable info.
eg.
is the house rendered?
what floor ?
solid floor?
solid walls?
rads or appliances in the room?

"damp" without further information means nothing - there are various kinds of damp and condensation.

The sensible solution to this, is to establish what is causing the damp issue. Re-plastering would not prevent this. It could be caused by a leak, externally or internally, it could be rising damp, it could be condensation. Absolutely no point doing any plastering until it is resolved.
