Plasterboard query

Hi there,
i need to plasterboard my wall which is bare brick at the moment. I need to dot/dab it as the bricks are too uneven to use batons, however the plasterboard needs to end up about 30mm away from the brick and a friend told me that a dab of plaster that thick would not hold the plasterboard - is this correct? If so any suggestions??

Way, way too thick! Ideally, dot & dab should end up with the plasterboard almost flush with the substrate wall! Baton it out; that’s how I did mine in a new conservatory as I wanted to run cables behind. Batons that thick should take care of any unevenness in the wall but if it's that bad, you could try additional packing under the battens locally, where necessary.

ok cheers - i will have a go at fixing batons to the wall instead, sounds better as i also have cables to run in.

Hi,

Make sure that you protect the cables by using either galvanised cover strips or tubing. Better safe than sorry. or errr dead!!!

For mains cables I always use galvanised cover strips as masonary drills wont penetrate; I'm amazed that the plastic stuff is still allowed!

For the A/V cables, I formed a 3 wide trunking using timber battens between 35mm steel boxes at the junctions & buried a couple of draw cables in there ready for pulling everything through; worked a treat.
