40mm pipe seems to come in different sizes for solvent weld and pushfit. Clearly therefore both are not 40mm. why the difference? Theres no info in stores which is why I have several incompatable lengths.

They're different sizes so you don't mix them up, ie. trying to solvent weld fittings to pushfit pipe will result in large puddles.

Solvent weld pipe is usually more expensive too. Saves you paying for more expensive solvent weld pipe, when you only need push fit pipe.

IIRC 40mm refers to the internal diameter, the wall thickness and therefore external diameter varies according to the type of plastic used in manufacture. All solvent should be a standard size across manufacturers, pushfit can vary.

like the last person said the sizes are internal different makes use slightly different sizes. glued and pushfit are different eve nfi made by the same people pushfit seems to bend more glued seems to be rigid

The pipe size and fitting size are normally printed on the pipe and moulded into the fittings so its worth checking them. Failing that use a mechanical fitting which fits all sizes(99% of the time), although mechanical fittings are not recommended for areas that are not accessible. If its going under the floor/tiles then use solvent weld and test it first!
