please help glow-worm betacom 24c/30c not flaming

rickc, how is your boiler holding up after removing, drying and reattaching?

My own story:

I noticed two days ago that my glow worm betacom 30 was flashing the 90 when I got up. I turned it off and then back on and it worked all day. At night time it was flashing 90 again. Again I done the same as above and all was well. It was not until I got up this morning, noticing the house was a wee bit cold that I noticed yet again we had the flashing 90.

This time it would not reset and would act as if it was going to go, flames lit but then after a few seconds just turn off and flash 90. No amount of turning off would reset this like before. Our landlord is not in the country so this was problematic, I was left without heating 2 years ago with the old system for over 3 weeks during that bad winter with 4 kids....its was soul destroying. So can not afford a repeat! Anyway....

After reading on here and the net at large and studying the installation documentation here, I located the condensate trap with its blue plug with connections on top and blue plug on side. I took off the top plug and noticed a little moisture and dampness inside so dried the spades, inside the plug and top of condensate trap...put it back together and then re-powered up the boiler. ITS WORKS!!

The problem now is...for how long? Be good to hear if it will be fine now or if there is anything I can do to ensure we at least get through the winter months without worrying about this.

Massive thanks to all on this post, I would be stuck if not for you all!! Thank you greatly!! :D

thanks to all who posted variuos solutions to the flame failure fault on the glow-worm betacom 30c. in the end i removed the condensate trap, cleaned & dried the sensor replaced it and now i have fully functioning boiler. thanks again to all.
hope this helps others with the same rubbish boiler.
:D

Hiya

Well i had same problem where sometimes it would ignite and sometimes it would go out and the 90C light would flash. I cleaned the trap out and put back in and filled water in that trap. Now its even worse now it tries to ignite and goes out so i am out of heating and hot water for 1 week. now it tries to ignite and then goes flames out. Any ideas?

Why did you fill water in the trap?

Personally, I took off the blue plug with the spade sensors on and dried them with kitchen roll or clean dish towel, dried as much of the trap itself at that area, put it back in, put the cover back on boiler then turn the system back on at the plug.

It should then fire up on its own.

Most my problems, and its happened a few times, has been sourced to the inadequate pipping set up going into the drainage. My outside drain gets blocked a lot due to the kids being wee beggars and flushing stuff down the toilet. When this happens it switches the boiler off as water is returning back up the pipe work. The boiler thus will switch off which is a good thing, it alerts me.

My washing machine goes into the same pipework you see, so any blockage causes soap suds to travel up the pipe of the trap, not to the boiler, just a little up the flexi-pipe but the moisture associated hits the spades and shuts it off.

I have never took the trap out as in touching anything apart from the sensor blue cap, drying it off, checking the flow pipe for obstructions and then went satisfied, lid on and then boiler on.

Sometimes it may take a few times to fire up, I can only suggest this is if I have not dried it properly enough.

hi thanks for your prompt reply, but i thought i had to take that off and fill it will water as label on the trap says fill with water or boiler will pack up. So are you saying to drain it and leave it with no water in it? I checked that pipe is going directly out side and no blockage. If i take the top blue sensor off will it bypass and work. I see it ignite but then goes out immediately. before i cleaned trap it used to fire up after i had tried a few times.

Hi,

it turned out to be Gas Valve not opening weird as it was firing 1 out of 3. I had to call someone out and swapped the part.

Thanks for tips guys

Our 90 light flashing also.
Took condenser pipe off after reading posts and blew down it (Don't know why) it was blocked with limescale
Hope this helps others.

mickyg I would be interested in the permanent fix if you would please.
