PLEASE HELP ME... This is driving me mad !!!

Thanks for the photos. They have answered some of my questions.

Do you have a thermostat on the side of your hot water cylinder? It looks something like this:

That's good.

The problem is that your system has been wired up differently to normal because your Tempus timer is only a single channel one and not a two channel one. Fortunately you can solve this by using the Tempus timer to control the Hot Water and the Drayton to control the Central heating.

The pic of your motorized valve shows a Honeywell valve is it the V4073?

It has this label on the inside of the casing

OK our posts are crossing

Right. You have what is called a Y Plan system. This needs a two-channel programmer to work but, as I said earlier, you can now use the Tempus as one channel (Hot Water) and the Drayton as the programmable thermostat for the other channel.

I can post a wiring diagram but first I need to know where the main electrical connection is for the system. Does the L, N, E supply go to the boiler and from there to the junction box? Or is it the other way round - L, N, E supply to the junction box which then feeds the boiler?

Also what cables go between to the boiler and the junction box (number of cables and number of wires in each)?

I may not be able to continue this conversation until tomorrow as another family member wants to use the computer.

Ok here goes,

Hope this makes sense.

L, N, E Feeds the junction box first then of to the boiler...

Boiler Live = 6 on junction box, with (Blue wire turned live) from Water Tank Stat & Diverter Valve Live (Brown).

Boiler Neutral = 5 on junction box, With Neutral from, Diverter Valve, Water Pump, and neutral link wire from 5 - 10 block

Boiler Earth = 2 on junction box, With Neutral from Diverter Valve, Water Pump, and a link wire from 2 - 11 Block.

Water tank stat Live (Brown) = Block 7, Shared with Link wire to Block 4 & also shared with link wire to Block 9.

Live link wire from block 9 - block 12 on Junction box

Live wire from block 12 on junction box - 3 (ON) Tempus one

Neutral wire from block 10 on junction box - Neutral on Tempus one

Mains live to "L" on Tempus one

Live link wire from L - 1 (COM) on Tempus one

Earth wire from block 11 on junction box - Earth on Tempus one

I really do hope this makes sense

:? :? :?

That bit does; the rest is baffling as it does not follow any recognized wiring scheme.

Please confirm which terminals carry the L, N and E from the wall socket/fused spur.

Boiler Live = 6 on junction box, with (Blue wire turned live) from Water Tank Stat & Diverter Valve Live (Brown)
.
What do you mean by "boiler live"? Is it the permanent live or the switched live.

The V4073A valve should have five wires and brown is not one of them. They are Blue, Green/Yellow, Grey, Orange and White.

Please double-check your valve wiring

Boiler Earth = 2 on junction box, With Neutral from Diverter Valve, Water Pump, and a link wire from 2 - 11 Block.
You can't have Earth and Neutral connected to the same terminal.

Is at a genuine earth or an earth wire used to carry voltage? Please explain

Can you list what is connected to all the terminals? For example I can't tell where the old stat connects or the pump.

I will probably suggest a complete rewire of the junction box to sort it all out. The biggest mystery at the moment is the Honeywell Valve.

I have managed to work most of it out now, including the Honeywell valve, which does have 5 wires as I can see the grey, orange and white in the photo of the junction box.

Disconnect everything from the junction box including links between terminals and wire up as follows:

JB = Junction Box

Mains Input
Live : JB 1
Neutral: JB 2
Earth: JB 3

Tempus 1
Live: JB 1
Neutral: JB 2
1 Com: Link to Live in the Tempus 1
2 Off: JB 7
3 On : JB 6

HW Thermostat
C: JB 6
1: JB 8
2: JB 7

Digistat
Link JB 1 to JB 4
C: JB 4
On: JB 5

Honeywell Valve
White: JB 5
Grey: JB 7
Blue: JB 2
Green/Yellow: JB 3
Orange: JB 8

Pump
Live: JB 9
Neutral: JB 2
Earth: JB 3

Note: the Pump gets its Live connection from the Boiler PL terminal via JB 9. This in accordance with mfr instructions.

Boiler
Live: JB 1
Neutral: JB 2
Earth: JB 3
Link JB 8 to JB 10
Switched Live (SL): JB 10
Pump Live (PL): JB 9

When you have done this, the Tempus 1 and cylinder thermostat will control the Hot Water times and temperatures; the Digistat will control the Central heating Times and temperatures.

Many thanks for your help with this...

You guy's really are worth your weight in gold...

I will put into practice what you have worked out for me tomorrow (Sunday), and let you know how I get on.

Hopefully by Sunday afternoon I will have Programable hot water & Programable central heating too....Cant wait...

If you ever find yourself in the Aylesbury area, drop me a message as I owe you you one hell of a drink... :)

Have fun! and don't delay in posting if you have any problems.

Doubt if I will ever be going anywhere near Aylesbury, so I have had an imaginary drink at your expense. Cheers

Hi D_Hailsham

Note: the Pump gets its Live connection from the Boiler PL terminal via JB 9. This in accordance with mfr instructions.

Switched Live (SL): JB 10
Pump Live (PL): JB 9

I'm stuck on these two above, does this mean that I need to link between JB 9 & JB 10 ?

All the rest has gone spot on

Sorry to be a pain

Ian

I think for D Hailshams efforts a contribution to a charity of his choice would be a good idea. He's saved you a small fortune in calling somebody out. :)
