hello there
i have a 60's valve recorder player which works fine, i need to change the casing of the flex in order to make it legal to sell (it has 2plyflex) however ive cut it off ready to add the new legal 2 ply flex and have found that there is only 2 copper wires and no colour coding! do you have any tips on how to identify each wire?
thanks

Live will go through the switch, it might also go through an internal fuse. If you are using a 2 core flex you must make sure that the record player is double insulated, otherwise use 3 core.

since you aare not a qualified electrician, i suggest you sell it with out a plug.

seriously that is how most people get around the law, no plug, since it has to be correctly fittted

I agree, if you change the cable and sell it with a plug its your resposibility.
Sell it like it is and its up to the buyer to sort it. Given its age it will not be a Class 2 appliance (double insulated) and should therefore be properly earthed by someone who knows what they are doing Then its 3-core cable.
Something in the back of my head is saying that sometimes in old valve equipment the (metal) chassis is not necessarily "earth" so my advice is don't do it.
