Can anyone tell me if there is a tool that will allow me to expand the end of copper pipe for joining?

Below is a tool that does the job, but is hard work/takes ages:

I'm looking for something that is quicker to use, and requires less effort.

Thanks

I remember a similiar type percussion device from my old Poly days ..lol

Rothenberger make an expanding tool with various head sizes from 15mm upwards. Takes seconds to use but doesnt come cheap at about £100 for the toll plus £40 a head and upwards size depending.

Ah nice one. That looks like just what I need.

Any idea where I could get one in Britain?

Cheers

why do you need one of these? - just curious.

A college tutor oncetold me to keep one in the van, because its a godsend when you run out of fittings when all the merchants are shut!

I doubt very much any one is that stupid to run out of end feed 15/22mm fittings ......shirley..lol

Blimey! Was only talking about them yesterday. My old mentor used them- makes for a very neat job, especially instead of a coupler on vertical pipes, no tears etc- as long as the expanded bit points up! And I thought I had all the toys I wanted.

have one myself, plumbcentre can get them direcft from roth. not cheap though your looking at £200 for tool 15mm and 22mm head. 28 and 45mm haed come in at 75 a piece.
Make sure you stipulate metric cos this tool also comes with imperial heads.
Also has tee pulling fittings if ever you need them.

Chris R you sussed me .........that`s the F in my moniker  thought no one would guess

The question I never thought to ask is, 'Is their use legit'? You'd reckon if Roth make the tool it would be, but what do the tube makers say I wonder?

Fair point -ask a silly question and all that. Keep my thoughts to myself next time!!!

Yea, I'm training to be a plumber at the moment, and I've had to make lots of joins using a standard socket former. It's a lot of work and very time consuming - not something I want to be doing for the rest of my life.

This tool should make things a lot easier. :)

Cool, thanks. £200 is a lot of money, although I'm sure it'll be worth it in the long run.
