I have a black worktop with an unfinished side that I'm trying to bevel and polish up. I think it's acrylic/stone mix as it smells of plastic when polishing. I'm using these polishing discs and went from 50 up to 8000 grit using each grit and using water past 400 grit as recommended. It's ended as shiny as the factory finished side, but doen't look as black. Any ideas?

The edge I did:

I'm thinking I left some 'gouges' from the harsher grits. Maybe I need to start back over from say 100 grit?

Thanks.

It could be that some dye has been added by the original manufacturers? You might need to colour it to get the black back.

Was the edge black previously?

It was a corner piece so that was originally just an unfinished unbeveled edge where another worktop was butted up against it perpendicular to it. It was indeed not black, but very grey.
