Hi

I'm going say this straight out, I have been a bit silly.

I wanted a flange fitting to the hot water cylinder for the shower (previously linked to the hot water overflow?), I don't have any time time so phoned a guy who put his flyer through the door (first mistake).

He turned up with his French workmate, I explained what I wanted done and left them to it. Next thing they have sheered the top off the cylinder, which to be fair could have been expected it must have been a fair age.

Then they couldn't get hold of a cylinder, in the end I had to collect one from my trusted local merchant.

So they fianally finished at 18:00, having arrived at 10:30 and left the top of the tank weeping (could just be fibre washer bedding in) and asked me to let the silicon sealant set for a couple of hours!

Then the problems:

Refilled the heating system to find two of the solder joints leaking (queue drain and breakout the lamp.

Flange outlet directly over the element

Shower connections crossed.

So after you have finished laughing, could anyone offer advice on how to deal with this the guy is returning this evening to check on the job.

don't pay.
take relevant photographs.
tell him to sling his hook.
get a proper job done.
its liable to cost a lot more to put someone else's work right.
an expensive lesson.

So which bit are you unhappy with?

Having to wait for the silicon sealant to set perhaps ? EliteHeat

The mind boggles where he put it mind

I always use silicone grease on both sides of the washer and to lubricate the thread and have never had any trouble sealing one ( yet ).

Gents

Thanks, for the advice in the end the price charged matched the quality of the work, so no need for any unplesentness

It has taken me a little time to correct it, rewipe the joints to remove excess solder, fit tank stat and add fibre washer to move flange outlet from finshed postion over heater element.

On the plus side I now have a properly insulated hot water cylinder, instead of the old jacketed one and temperature control of my old Mira 723 has never been as good.

Also now I can get a shower pump fitted and yes I will attempt hire one of your more experianced collegues.

Anyone around Cheadle?

Regards

Rob
