Hi, my first post . I am posting regarding my parents Potterton Profile 80e boiler which has given up on us and I am hoping some people can offer a bit of guidance... We have had an engineer round to check the boiler and he is claiming that it needs a new electronic board (from the manual I am guessing 'Electronic Control') and what my mum seems to remember as some valve (again from the manual i'm guessing 'Gas Control Valve' either 'Honeywell' or 'White Rodgers'). This is costing around £400 inc. labour!!!
The problem was that the heating suddenly was not coming on. From what I can remember the correct lights were lit on the wall when we selected it to but the boiler simply made a clicking noise. Looking into the small window I could see a sparking with the click but nothing else.
Funny thing is the guy was around a month or so ago servicing it and claimed it would easily be good for another 10 years!!!
