Hi i hope you can help ive had a problem with my boiler for the past 3 yrs it works fine in summer but come autume/winter the CH keeps cutting out. It fires up for about 1/2 a min then trips out and keeps trying to fire up every few mins, the hot water is fine. Ive checked the pressure gauge and highered or lowered the pressure to what it needs to be and usually that works but this time no such luck. Ive even turned the system completely off over night and turned it all back on but still keeps tripping out. Can you help!

You have not explained what you mean by "tripping out".

It would also be helpful to know if you have an electronic model with no permanent pilot light.

It sounds likely that the pump may be stiff or not working. This has a black knob which can be rotated anticlockwise and withdrawn slightly to spin the pump by hand. It should turn freely with two fingers.

When the boiler is put onto CH the pump should be rotating and will turn the black knob if it engaged with the shaft.

There are of course several other things which may be the cause.

Thank you for replying to me. The model is puma 80. When i say tripping out i mean it fires up for about 30 seconds and then stops and it keeps trying to fire up every 5-10 mins. You said somethin about a black knob that needs to run freely where would it be on the system?

Ensure that there are not any water leaks or dripping taps on the hot water side of boiler. This would prevent correct operation of the wax capsule diverter valve from opening to the heating flow. Also check pump is operating, auto air valve, pressure vessel at correct air pressure. Finally ensure that d.h.w. flow switch is not stuck in the open position. My feeling ,by your brief description of fault,is that the wax diverter valve assembly is due for renewal, good luck.
