Hi

Bit of a complex one been having trouble with potterton puma.

Two weeks ago pressure dropped and pilot light kept going out and boiler was banging before going out. Found air bleed valve was constantly dripping (so changed) and as pressure light had not come on, checked pressure switch which was full of clag so swapped for new and cleaned through. When I re filled boiler all ok pressure lock out occured ok before filling and no more leaks from air valve. So assumed pilot has been locking out due to overheat.

I am away but just found out from other half that pilot would not stay on and boiler had been " grumbling and rumbling " in last couple of days. Plumber was called in my absence and " tightened" something took five mins and all now seems ok any ideas what may have been tightened (gas pressure regulator, but boiler serviced only six months ago) or something on flow diverter? thermocouple???.

Dont understand why pilot would lock out and boiler bang if pressure ok

I know these boilers are not that good but thinking if replacing, any views what to go for Bosch?

the puma is not a bad boiler if you can get someone who knows how to look after. theres a few parts which WILL require changing at some point but none are that expensive and all fairly reasonable jobs to do.

personally i like them!

Rumbling and grumbling is usually the HW flow switch sticking.
