This was a new boiler that came with the property about 7 years ago. It started having these intermittent igniting problems last year so I took out a maintenance contract with BG. They checked everything out and found it was a fault with the pcb so they repled it but the problem never really did go away. BG engineers were called back several times but couldn't find anything wrong so this year I didn't bother renewing the contract.

Sometimes I have to press the reset button 2 or 3 times before it decides to ignite, you can hear it clicking as if it's about to ignite but more often that not it will fail. It's a bit of a pain when you set the timer for the heating to come on before you get home as chances are it won't.

Is this a job for a CORGI or could a bit of DIY resolve it?

Thanks papa

New PCB needed

do a search on suprimas and you will see that they are a pain

If they only replaced the board there is now a redesigned board that requires all the internal wiring loom to be changed . when done we are lead to believe things will be rosie. BG may do this on a fixed price but u may be better renewing the cover 4 another year if you can blag it.

I understand the ignition lead has also been a problem in the past. It could well be producing the spark in the wrong place due to breakdown of insulation or the position of the spark may need some adjustment.
This is what potterton told me and the lead was replaced for about £3. It did not cure the problem, but a new pcb did. However it is worth checking out by examining the lead.

hi i noticed that you are in middlesex, so am i. where abouts?. i have a potterton suprima 40 with a new style pcb fitted. the boiler is in good working order and is due to be disconected in 2 weeks due to a house re-vamp. you could have it for a cheap price. then you have all the parts you need or get it swopped over.

Hi Mark, let me know if you've still got the PCB, at the right price, I'd be interested - Dave Mids 07815 791694, cheers
