Hi all,

Im not sure if this forum is for central heating repairmen rather than consumers (ie, me), but here goes

I have a Potterton Suprima boiler. There is no model number on it that I can see, but there is a large hot water tank in the airing cupboard upstairs, and a boiler downstairs.

Before Xmas, the central heating would ignore the timer settings and not trip on and off properly. Sometimes it would come on and not go off, sometimes it wouldn't come on when it was supposed to.
Theres a box connected to the tank with some sort of coil inside it, and a lever. Most of the time I could turn the heating manually on and off by moving the lever

After returning home after Xmas, I now also have a boiler problem. Last week the boiler required frequent resetting, whereas now it just cuts out almost immediately. The pilot light will start (and light the gas), followed by some ticking noise and then after a few seconds the gas supply cuts out and the boiler goes back to flashing red and needs resetting.

Ive a few questions please..

What is likely wrong with the tank that causes the timer not to work?
Any ideas why the boiler is cutting out all the time?

Finally, what sort of boiler is this (condensing etc?). I'm wondering whether it might just be better to get the whole thing replaced with something decent, as I cant remember the last time this whole system worked properly, even after being repaired in the past.

Thanks for any help

Get a service/breakdown contract with British Gas or Heateam

Could be a faulty zone valve causing the boiler to fire when timer is off.

Baxpoti has the best advice, especially if you do not feel confident or competent to attemp repairs yourself.
