I have a Powermax 185 Boiler which is around four years old. Since installation in a new property around four years ago, I have had numerous lock out faults. However, my most recent problem appears to be with the hot water flow rate from the system, which has just dropped to about a third of what it was previously.

Any ideas as to why the water flow would drop so dramatically, could it be an air lock ?

I have opended all the other tap sets in the house and flow is equally as bad, so I assume it is at the source ?

Any ideas ? :

Hi,

Have you managed to fix you problem yet?.

If you have what was the fault as i have exactly the same problem.

Regards

Yes, I managed to get the problem fixed. I believe that it was the thermostatic blending valve that was the issue. I simply removed this item from the system, opened the unit up to take a look. Whilst gazing at it, part of the assembly jumped up under spring pressure. When I put it back together I thought it could be sticking and therefore simply lubricated the inside wall and re-assembled. Fingers crossed, it has been fine since.

HI,

Thanks for the reply.

Where abouts is this part and do i need special tools to remove it. As i am not a plumber do i need to get one in to do the job or can i do it.

Do i need to turn off the water (mains) or boiler. Sorry for the questions but i really dont know.

Thanks in advance for the reply.

Tim,

If I were you I would get a plumber in to do this, as you do need to turn off the water and partially drain the system, although this is not a big job. I assume that you have an installation manual that you received with the boiler, if you take a look at this then you can clearly identify where the blending valve is located, on the front of the boiler behind the main cover. The manual will also provide you with the part/model no of the valve, should you need to order a new one. I think they are abount £60 ref (www.hccfspares.com)

I am not a plumber and it only took me 45mins, so the charge should not be too great.

Hope this helps you.
