Hi

Just wondering ifs acceptable to route power to my shed along a standard cable routed in metal conduit fixed to the (very solid) garden wall ?

Could be on its own radial from the CU

Burying the cable would be a nightmare

Thanks

Nothing “has to be buried”. cables need to be selected to suit the intended installation method and protected.

we have our power and ethernet going down a low garden fence to our shed. It was like that when we moved in. We've had an electrical survey done since, and they picked up that the sheathing is brittle and cracked due to UV rays. Knowing the previous owner, it was probably not the right type of thing to use in the first place.

Likely, the cable is the twin and earth cable, usually grey, and flat. It is now only suitable for indoor use, due to the fact they found it degrades when exposed to UV. It is also not suitable for use where mechanical protection might be needed.

It was only ever suitable for internal use.

I put an outside light in for my aunt when I was apprentice 25 years ago, I clipped a twin and earth outside, it's still there original light original bulb......the twin and earth looks fine not sure what would happen if I bent it.
