Hi Mike

I too am looking for a Powermax specialist who covers the Thetford area. My service plan was also with D.C. Heating Services, the owner I believe has moved to New Zealand. Call me on 01842 760529 for more details. I will let you know if I find a company who will also cover Dereham.
D.C. Heating Services also covered Attleborough and Wymondham.

Trevor

Hi Trevor

That would be great if you can find someone and i will do the same if i do.As for D C Heating we received a letter on Saturday informing us that the company would cease trading at the end of August as a buyer can't be found. Now thats all well and good but we have been trying to ring them since the end of July to get them out to look at our boiler which is now really noisy when its on.They should really still be honouring there contract with us as they state in the letter the company is closing at the end of August which is still 2 weeks away.

Mike

When someone is emigrating and closing the Company you should not expect them to necessarily honour their contracts.

Whilst I would, for some the temptation to cut and rum is too great.

Why are you so reluctant to call the manufacturer's service team?

Hi

Well if i am paying monthly for a service plan it would just have been nice if that had let us know earlier that they were not going to do any more work rather than just keep taking your money. When you are shelling out X amount a month for 24 hour call out etc but can't get in touch with them for 5 weeks i think its a bit of a cheek.

Hi Mike
I also received the letter from D.C. Heating Services on Saturday. My son who also had a service contract with them has written to B.W. Shutler one of the Directors and the father of D. Shutler who may have moved to New Zealand. He was due for a service and descale at the beginning of June and as they said that the company closes on the 31 August he has written to them asking for this to be done. I do not hold any hope of this being done though. Luckily we both stopped the standing orders when my son tried to contact them by telephone and email to no avail.
On Monday I shall contact the manufacturers to arrange a service contract which, when I contacted them last week, should be £10.99 per month. Will let you know what happens. No body else now offers the descalling option in their service plans which is needed in a hard water area like Thetford, although it can be provided at a cost on a one off basis.

Why do you need de-scaling (presumably of the coil / HW side of the heat exchanger, depending on Powermax model)?

Do you not have a Siliphos gadget on the incoming cold to prevent scale forming in the first place? (I thought they were required (and mentioned in MI) for Powermax.....)

I do not currently need a descaling as this was only done at the end of May. For some reason in this area we need descaling yearly due to the hardness of the water. However, some properties opposite me have lasted up to eight years. It is the hot water side only, no problems with the heating. We had a Siliphos type gadget which solidified where the chemical came into contact with the water at sometime between being fitted and the following year when it was again due for replacement. D.C. Heating said they were a waste of time as their service plan included one yearly descale or more if needed. They fitted free of charge a device which clamps onto the cold pipe and connects to the power supply on the Powermax 155. As this was only fitted at the end of May I am hoping it will make a difference. It is called a Hydroflow made by Hydropath for : Range - Powermax High Performance Mains Pressure Hot Water & Heating. (Thats all it says on the module)

Who is Shirley ??

Or who is half cut?

on the querty keyboard "n" and "m" are side by side and after a few glasses of Dumisani its easy to hit one instead of the other.

To Trevor, do you have a dripping hot tap somewhere???

shirley= a drunk surley

a few rums ( naval beverage)= half cut (a naval term for drunkeness)

:)

This has been suggested to me and I have had the very slightest of drips from one of my taps. Hopefully now rectified with a new washer, also a few words to the wife who seems incapable of turning them off completely.

Those dripping taps cause lime scale deposition in the HE.

I have never heard of any other firm cleaning the HE free within a maintenance contract.

Dont expect any other cover to do that!

They will replace them rather than clean them but at your cost.

If you stop dripping the taps then you will get the eight years like your neighbours!
