Preserving marine ply

Hi folks,

I built a worktop in my garage out of Marine Plywood, as I was told it was quiet hard-wearing. I don't think the moisture out there is doing it any good, as some of the first layer was lifting. I have leveled it off and sanded it down.

I am going to varnish it, to help preserve it.
Is there anything in particular I should be using?

Use oil [Danish, teak] varnish will crack and blister with use.

Once the plys (layers) start lifting then the ply is gone - you wont get that layer to sit back down.
If you have entirely removed the top layer then you have removed the most firmly bonded layer.
You could reverse the ply if the worktop footprint allows.
My opinion is that all these claims over the years for marine or WBP ply are nonsense, and you are being sold whatever ply the Mfr's can shift.
