Pressure gauge on Worcester Greenstar 4700iW System boiler swing around whilst heating.

So I have been at my elderly grandparents over Christmas and noticed that the analogue pressure gauge under the boiler was noticeably swinging around a bit in the 1.5-2.0 Bar region whilst was the boiler was on. Is this normal or does it indicate a underlying issue?

I read somewhere online that this may mean a issue like the internal expansion vessel needs recharging with air, but not sure if that is true?

The boiler in question is a Worcester Greenstar GR4700iW 18 S NG and was installed a few years ago.

If it continues to rise then likely an expansion issue but if it’s just moving when the heating is on then unlikely, but could be a sign that it needs attention because I doubt it would expand that much.

It's not rising as such but rapidly bouncing around (swinging back and forth) within say a half or third of a bar or so.

Could it be that the pressure gauge is faulty, and it’s giving incorrect/fluctuating readings?

Find out how to inspect the pressure on the boiler’s display, and then compare it to the pressure needle.

If it’s the same then it’s probably, as mentioned above by Countryfan, the expansion vessel that requires re-charging, or even worse, replacing.

Does the fault still happen when the heating is off?
