HELP!! I NEED TO REPLACE MY BOILER AND OIL TANK BUT AM NOT SURE WHETHER OR NOT TO CONVERT TO LPG GAS. LIKE EVERYONE ELSE, I'M GETTING MORE AND MORE DEPRESSED WITH THE EVER INCREASING COST FOR HEATING ETC. IF ANYONE HAS ANY ADVICE THEY CAN GIVE ME, I WOULD BE REALLY GRATEFUL.

They price of heating fuel seems to vary (upwards) every day. As far as I know LPG is as expensive as oil or even more so. So unless you have a very old boiler and were considering renewing it anyway I wouldn't bother.

Put the £5k cost of the LPG installation into the bank and use the interest to reduce your oil bill.

Nobody knows what the price of oil or LPG will be next week, or month, year, etc.

Paying a high upfront cost to obtain a (possible) slight reduction in running cost is not economic sense. By the time you have covered your costs either you or the boiler will have expired.

Insulate, insulate, and then insulate some more. Turn down the thermostats and reduce the time the heating is on. Install a wood-burning stove. Turn off the rads in the rooms you don't use every day and close the doors.

Get used to the fact that the UK no longer commands the price of food or fuel, we are subject to the whims of suppliers halfway across the world. Pay up.
