I got quoted 800 on a 3 ft long by 4 ft high wall off the left wall into a pillar then in front of the green bin a pillar then a 3 ft long by 4 high wall to the left into another pillar so I can put gates up. I got quoted 800 for the labour and materials all in. Does that sound Right?

Make sure the quote is itemised to include how deep they will dig the foundations, the bricks to be used (foundations and main wall), the thickness of the piers and wall, and how the wall is to be finished on top - and disposal of all the spoil.

At the very most, it's three man-days of work so thats what, £450 labour for a one-man band. Or say £500 with profits and expenses. So that leaves £300 for materials, and if its 215mm thick walls with 440mm square piers, then it might be about right for materials.

Bear in mind that gates hung on piers can cause the pies to lean if the foundations aren't right. So get it clarified what they are going to do - and check the foundation depth before its filled.
