i have kids, and i know that if you say "you've been naughty, you're going to bed early" and then at bedtime, let them stay up to watch Harry Hill's TV burp, then their punishment is meaningless.....
Now i'm all for a bit of discipline but thats horrible to torture your kids like that what did they do to deserve that?!

Yes, that is utterly ghastly.
I simply don't understand these modern parenting techniques.

I submit that punishment by Harry Hill is a breach of Article 3 of the Human Rights Act 1988

Article 3
Prohibition of torture
No one shall be subjected to torture or to inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.

How'd he feel if he was forced to watch re-runs of the X-Factor and i'm a Celebrity?
Despicable!

The offenders are being let out up to 18 days early.

Thats going to have major impact on society

If it was 18 months the that would be an issue to discus, but 18 days ain't worth debating, unless you have nothing better to do.

A quick run through of my life.

Brought up in bolton council estate, dad worked, mam, at xmas, for toys off mam, not dad. 4 of us,kids, no spends, friends did get spends,so to stay in with them, needed money.

I try to fnd work 1978/ 79...no chance

That was the start of my criminal career, everyone around had money, i wanted a job. going through the same thing agian,i need a job, if it dosen't materialise, i will go back to doing things against the law, i still have to provide.

Wait till this new law comes out, people not willing to work, get no money, ha, then you will need prisons, watch all the sentences go down.

People need educaion and work, when i have a decent paying job, i never see the law.

I have read that 3 times and I still have no idea what on earth you were trying to say.

i just dont believe that.

i saw a fella on the TV, to be fair he did live in one of the most impoverished areas in N Ireland, he said, 'theres just no opportunities here, i havnt worked in 9 years.'

i just thought you lazy b*stard. i dont care if people take the pi55 out of the benefits system or fund their lives threw dealing but dont complain there are no jobs. mccdonalds and burgerking are always hiring. you can always get a job as a kitchen porter somewhere in the city. if your too good to do these jobs then dont, sit home and claim you dole but dont whinge about it.

so you think we have it right in this country?

why do we keep locking people up?
why do we keep locking the same peolpe up :?

surely there has to be a better way?

there is a better way when people are sent to prison make sure there punished, leave them in their cells for most of the day no tv's radios pool tables etc

prison life can't be that bad or people wouldn't keep on doing crime and getting sent back

do not know how to transfer comments... but the libby one sais what is all wrong with this country... no job for years... but still manages to get on line.. took me.. a years saving and a contract that i must pay.. must be doing something right... or is it wrong....

Yep...

you can whack up the penalties as much as you want but its such easy money there will always be someone who will do it and when they get put away somebody will take their place.

And yep...

Perhaps we just shouldnt lock them up at all?...at the end of the day if you listen to the do-goder brigade its all down to us..for creating such a terrible society that has alienated the poor lambs and put them at a disadvantage..thus driving them to a life of crime.

why do we keep locking people up?
why do we keep locking the same peolpe up

1...Er...because they commit crimes..thats what generally happens

2..Becasue they do it again maybe?..

Perhasp the government should give them loads of money..a grand a week..to fuel their grotty little lifestyles...

Give them a car so they wont nick ours

A telly..so they wont nick ours

My wallet with my wages (a sum received for working for a living)

The only trouble is...

They will nick a bigger faster one..

They will nick an LCD one if they only have a plasma

They will still nick someone elses wages..

Because thats what they do...thats the type of people they are, they must love it when these limp wristed pinkos stand up and make all the excuses under the sun on their behalf..

A black African, Nigerian once said to me that people over here are always making excuses for some NOTE 'SOME' west indians..turning to crime, how its our fault for making life so hard for them (which, back in the fifties sixties and even the early seventies..some people no doubt did in some situations..but they also made life very hard for indians, pakistanis, especially..

So whos fault is the crime situation in Jamaica?..us again?

Most other immigrants including the remaining west indians..were/are hard grafting people..the Nigerians opinion was that 'some' west indians were not and would take 'option b' every time..he pointed out that street crime was carried out by young west indians or those of west indian descent...not Africans

Right or wrong I dunno...the guy was a jehovah witness who did seem to have an issue with Jamaicans..but he aslo pointed out that life was once hard for him too..because he was black..

But it certainly blows a hole in the race card arguement..or did we only make life hard for immigrants other than Africans?...as I recall the sign said 'no dogs irish or blacks' it didnt have 'except africans' in brackets..

why do we keep locking people up?

Maybe hitting them with a hard sentacne in the first place and not making excuses for them the might just get the message and not commit anymore crimes..

why do we keep locking the same peolpe up..

Then the same people wont get locked up again maybe?
