Hope I am in the right place as this my first post and I am hoping for some
advice.

3 years ago we had a solid fuel stove and external flue pipe installed
by a Hetas registered engineer. We have now decided to replace the stove
and asked 3 engineers for quotes to carry out the work. The first engineer
said there were problems as the flue did not comply with building regs.
which state that there must be a distance of 2.3m between the flue
pipe and roof tiles, measured in a straight line from the flue exit. Our
flue pipe is nowhere near this distance from the roof tiles as it only protudes
about 3ft above the guttering. I would guess the distance
to be less than 1m. This obviously has to be corrected but will the installing
engineer have to to do this or will we have to pick up the bill ?

What is it going to take ? Another metre of flue? 30 quid? After three years are you really going to ring up the installing engineer and ask him for it?

Think that is a bit naive, The job will require scaffolding, estimated cost of a days hire for one big enough to do the job was £250. The 2 metres of TW flue will cost, according to the supplier £200, an engineer to erect the scaffold and install the extra flue will probably cost another £200. Soon mounts up.
We are in our 70's my husband is disabled and according to the engineer who told us of the problem, the flue is so low that sparks from it could have started a fire under the roof. So we have been living with a potentially dangerous situation for three years. None of this was our fault
but at the moment it is disrupting our lives as we cannot now get the new stove installed until the flue problem is rectified.
£30 - I wish it was just a case of £30. What might at first glance seem a minor matter has become a huge problem for us.
Anyway did you think I could shin up the roof and pop it in myself ????
