Hi,

i have a parquet wood block floor in my living room and its starting to get on my nerves!

the reason for this is that when you step on certain areas the floor it "snaps, crackles and pops", which ain;t good.

the floor has been down for 2 yrs or so by the previous house owner.

is this a serious prob to fix? hope not as its driving me nuts!

Are there any loose blocks? If you knock on the blocks in the 'snap' area does it sound hollow?
Are there more gaps between the blocks in the 'snap' area than in the rest of the room?

We need a bit more info before we are able to give advice ;)

hi,

thanks for yuor response.

yes there is definitely a difference when i tap the blocks with a snap as they do sound hollow!!, the blocks with no snap are solid. as for gaps not really much in it.

any ideas?

I think this is due to uneven and too fast speading of the parquet adhesive and not covering the bed totally. sometimes bubbles get trapped in the adhesive which eventually collapse and move under load, what you are hearing is the movement of the dhesive Woodyoulike will probably be better to advise, but I doubt there is much you can do without ripping it all up

Have to agreed and maybe the floor adhesive is not thick enough or if it's floor screed the most common problem is not using floor level compound.

thanks both

have you got any advicse for me on this? much appreciated!!

thankls

If the area is not very big, you could try to fill the hollow space with a syringe filled with parquet adhesive (if there are small gaps between the blocks try to use them, if not drill a tiny hole in some of the blocks).

If that's not possible then the only solution is to remove the blocks in the 'snap' area, remove all existing adhesive from underfloor and blocks and install them again.
If you have 'old fashioned English wood blocks' they will have T & G's and you have to be very carefull not to remove to many blocks (T&G's can lift connecting blocks up etc, etc, leaving you with much more loose/remove blocks than intended).

Hope this helps.
