Problems after a mini flood

Hi Everyone

We had water coming through the kitchen ceiling about a year ago after an "incident" with our 4 year old in the bath. The plastering/decorating has since been sorted but we have continuing probs with the light fitting in the kitchen.

Its a batten with 3 spot lamps and the bulbs periodically flicker and then seem to pop. Have replaced them form time to time but they start to misbehave fairly quickly so I'm sure its some residual damage from the leak (I know the water followed the cable and was coming down at the batten).

Is it more likely to be the wiring in the ceiling or the light fitting itself. Where should I start, what sort of damage should I look for and how could I rectify.

15th edition notwithstanding I wouldn't have thought this needed a spark.

bin the light fit a new one, its water damaged.

I wouldn't have thought it would be due to the water a year later.
Before you do anything make sure the power is switched off from the consumer unit (CU).
Remove the fitting but again before doing anything make a note of the wiring or take a pic so you know how it all goes back again.
Check the connections for a loose connection and make sure the earths are properly sleeved.

BTW its now the 16th ed soon to be replaced by the 17th ed.

We're very nearly onto the 17th!

IMHO, these fittings are prone to heat build-up & it is this that shortens lamp life. Ditch the fitting for a fluorescent!
