I wish to install a pull cord extractor fan in my bathroom. It has L and N connections only. Can I wire this directly from the pull cord switch that operates the bathroom light?
Thanks.
Only if there is a neutral connection at the switch. If you only have two wires (plus earth) at the switch then it will not be possible. If you're lucky enough to have loop in/out at the switch then it will be relatively simple.
There are only 2 wires at the switch, red and black(plus earth)! I tried wiring through this and the result is that the fan only works when the light is off!!! DOH!

Not only that, it wouldn't be working to its full capacity, as current through the fan would be limited to whatever can pass through the lamp(s) wired through that switch. You'll have to take a feed from the fitting/rose on the ceiling.
