Help, my chord broke to my pull switch under the stairs.

On taking apart the unit , it only has 2 red wires going to it and an earth.

I want to replace this switch with a normal switch

How does the new single pole switch need to be re-wired?

Wires going to the old pull swtch are:

1 red to L1
1 red TO COM
1 earth

NO OTHER WIRES?

So, do you have your "normal" switch?

The terminals will proably be marked

C, L1 and (maybe L2)

Put one red in C
One red in L1 andterminate the earth in a bit of terminal block.

Job done

Reds to COM & L1. Earth (sleeved green/yellow) to the earth terminal on the switch, if there is one, or if not to the one in the back box.

[EDIT] Doh! 2 in a row.... :( [/EDIT]

THANKS, IM CONFUSED AS THERE IS NO NEUTRAL, AM I SAFE WIRING IT BACK A ONE WAY SWITCH LIKE THIS AND WILL I NEED TO BUY A 2 WAY SWITCH AS THERE IS NO NEUTRAL WIRE????

No.
You buy a one way switch and connect the wires to COM and L1
Exactly the same as the old switch, which was also a one way switch.

Here's one:
