Purpose of ball end on some hex keys?

Why do some hex keys have a ball end? Are there some sockets that are contoured in some strange way? - I'm yet to find one!

With a ball end you can go into the bolt at a slight angle should you need to.

Presumably though, a standard hex key would be prefered if there are no access issues and the hole can be met straight on?

The only reason to prefer them is that they're cheap. A handled driver is much faster and far more pleasant to use. The only reason not to use one is if it can't apply sufficient torque. Then I use a T-handled key, or a hex bit in a ratchet spanner.
