I'm posting out of curiosity.

Why do some manufacturers insist on putting oval ends on instead of a hex ends which are far more practical. Even allen key are better!

Changed a couple of rear shocks on an Polo TDI, old Sachs and new KYB being having oval ends.

To make it difficult is my only assumption, but maybe it also saves on machine time as they can just stamp it to make it oval, which means it's cheaper

Needle nosed mole grips is what I’ve used if they won’t gun off.

I'm guessing that the piston rods are forged and that it's a cheap and easy shape to forge?
