push button cistern is useless

just had a push button cistern fitted.
button is around 20cm from to central if cistern so plastic pipe is fairly short but still u need to really give it a good push and i mean a good hard push.wife and other females even struggle to push it.kids have to take a good few attemps,
any ideas how to overcome this?
