I'll keep this simple ................ ish!
At the end of the gardens in my road is a row of garages and I'm buying the one at the end of my garden.
How easy would it be to knock a hole in the back wall and insert a door.
I'm assuming I won't need PP or building regs, if this is the case, how easy/difficult would the job be.
If it's reasonably straight forward, is there a good 'walkthrough' available on the internet?
Many thanks in advance.

its an easy job pal,,,brick or block

you could use a petrol saw to cut it out or stitch drill it and nock it out

or pay a builder/bricklayer to cut it out for you and fit a lintel,,,,without looking at it i would do this inbetween £50-£100

iam sure some of the locals here will have something to say about my post but ive cut out 2 doors already this year so have a little idea what iam talking about,,,,,,,,,one was outside so i cut it using a petrol saw and the other was inside a school so we drilled it out

if its a simple 4 inch wall,,,,,you could get it done within an hour,,,,,,,easy work,,,,sometimes i cut out the hole for the lintel, bed it in then remove the remaining wall the day after

Thanks for the advice!
Would it be possible to do the lintel & cut the door out on the same day?
It's a straightforward single skinned brick wall.
Presumably the lintel MUST be in place before the door hole is cut, but does the cement have to be completely set before the door hole is cut?
Thanks in advance,

Unless there is some ridiculous point load above the opening then there is little to worry about that a simple prop could not fix. The chances are that the masonry above may need re-building in any case depending on how resilient the masonry is.

It can all be done in a day.

The quality of the finish depends upon how much you wish to spend.

You can either have the opening sawed through with a 12" Stihl saw or you can go to the expense of having the jambs removed and re-laid with new bricks or re-use and clean the existing bricks.

A lot can also depend on how well the perp' ends line up. The closer you are to a corner the better the chance that the perp's have not wandered.
