Hi all, After having our boiler break a couple days ago we decided we couldnt go any longer without a bath. we did the usual heat the kettle and also heated pans on the hobs. We had all four on for about 15 mins then it stopped working and hasnt worked since. The hobs are seperate from the oven and dont have a timer so is basically 4 hobs 4 knobs and a light to show when it comes on which it doesnt now! I lifted up the hob to have a quick peek and looks as tho all the wiring is okay under the hob although it goes off down the back of the cooker so without taking it out at this point dont know if the prob is down there. does anyone know what could of happened? seems a bit strange all four hobs stopped work and not even power light coming on. gonna buy a electric tester tomorrow but does anyone have any ideas in the mean time?? thanks in advance!! :)

Have you checked the consumer unit to see if the circuit for it has tripped / blown a fuse?

Hi thanks for the fast responce! well it didnt trip any of the house and the main oven part lights up and works fine?

Sometimes if the oven is separate it is plugged into a different circuit.
Do you have circuit breakers or fuses?

It might not be very obvious if a fuse has popped, what size is the cooker fuse?
If it is the same as another one then you could try swopping it over just to check it.
Turn off the main switch before removing the fuse and don't switch it back on again until after you have re-insterted the fuse.

Right swapped them over but still the same oven working but not the hobs, the fuse is 30A, any other ideas? thanks

Next thing I'd check is that there is 240v between L&N at the cooker outlet plate. This involves live working so might be better to call in an electrician.

Okay thanks, ill have to check that tomorrow as dont have tester, thanks very much for your time, ill let you know how i get on!! :D

hi can you trace the cable from the hob and see
where it is connected.
it is possible it is plugged in to a socket and with 4 hot plates
on it has blown the fuse.
this is not how it should be done but have a look

Hi thanks for this just tested and theres no power at the hobs gonna trace it back now if i can move the oven out a bit! :?
