I am considering replacing my laminate kitchen worktops with quartz. I have had quotes from a couple of local "designer" kitchen companies which do seem a bit high. They both subcontract out the fitting of these worktops and you get the feeling they would really like you to buy a whole new kitchen. My question is, would I be better approaching people who only deal in worktops, of which there seem to be many online. If so, can anyone give me any recommendations? I am situated in South Cumbria. Thanks.

Saved over a £1000 going to a fitter directly over what the big name companies wanted (wren, wickes, Magnet etc)

Also it was templated and fitted all in 3 days. The other companies estimated 7-10 days.

Win win for money and time. I would suggest shopping around.

When we bought our kitchen from magnet to self fit, I asked about a price for a quartz worktop /backsplash etc and was told £5-6k but was advised to find somewhere myself. We got a local bloke in and it came to about a third of that price. No point in giving you their details as you are well out of their area so look locally.

We have an importer very close to us so after you've looked at samples at the fitters, you can go and see the actual piece you'll get, There is quite a visual difference between a 100 square and a huge slab so worth doing.
