Hi Folks, Merry Xmas :)

Just a quick question, we are having a double side extension (lounge of ground floor and 2 bedrooms above it). We have had all the BR drawings done but do not have them to hand as we are away for the holiday.

Do the new downlights that are to fitted need to be fire rated?
Its just the wife has seen some downlights on clearance in b&q but are not fire rated.

thanks

from memory , if there is accomodation or habitable room above then they should be fire rated or have fire hoods, which are dearer than new fire rated lights.

Only use downlighters that conform to BS EN 60598, the British Standard for Luminaires and ensure the requirements of BS 7671 are met.
Follow the Manufacturer’s instructions
Ensure the requirements of the Building Regulations (England andWales) are met
Provide space around the downlighter
Fit the correct lamp

Try the electricians forum and do a search - subject often comes up.

From memory however ( not sparky) fire-rating only required when fitted between two separate dwellings i.e. not needed within your own house.

Best check
