Just a quick one, i took off one of the plug sockets to fill some cracks and paint around yesterday (Note - I turned off the downstairs sockets at the fuse box) . Whilst doing this, at some point i either caught one of the earth with my filling trowel or possibly two of them touched by accident. Not sure which as at the time didnt notice, only after i realised it resulted in knocking out the kitchen and upstairs mcb at the fusebox.

Is it worth getting checked out or was it just the circuit breaker doing its job...

Was it an RCD (little test button on it with test quarterly) which tripped?

Thats the one, the RCD that is on the side of the 3 downstairs circuits, that tripped. Im prety sure that the earth and neutral that touched.

It is normal for an RCD to trip as a result of a N>E fault, even on a 'dead' circuit.

Providing you have checked for damaged in the affected socket, there should be no need for any further action.
