Down every market they sell fluffy thin dusters who are useful to clean behind and between the radiator fins.
Taking radiators off the wall is simply asking for trouble, as you know now.
They're not meant to be taken off.

That’s what I will be using going forward but as unfortunate as I was in having a split in the pipe I was fortunate to find out about it the way I did and not by waking up to a flooded bathroom.
