Hello,
I have returned home to find water running from a pipe down the outside wall of my flat. The pipe appears to be from the back of my Ravenheat Boiler and the water was warm. I have turned the heating off but the water continues to run from the pipe outside. The water escaping is now cold but continues to pour down the wall Is there anything I can do to stop the water flowing overnight until I get the landlord to have it looked at tomorrow?

There is no model number I can see on the boiler. I hold my hands up to being completely ignorant about plumbing/boilers so any advice would be hugely appreciate no matter how obvious it may seem to the more experienced.

Thanks

Its a pressure releif pipe that comes from a valve inside the boiler that opens when the pressure is too high (about 3 bar)

Why does your landlord need to see it. Unless he's competent to work on boilers he's should just arrange for a boiler man to come out as soon as possible.

The pressure is currently at 2 and hasnt changed in past couple of hours.

The landlord will not actually look at it but the letting agency has plumber who will hopefully be able to sort problem

Is there anything I can do to stop the water to the boiler?

The pressure has at some point got to 3 bar. They rarely just open.

Not alot you can do. the expansion vessel has probably failed and the valve will certainly need replacing.

Dont try and cap it in any might go boom. It will probably stop eventually and boiler will cut out. Hope your man fixes it tomora!

I am quite keen to avoid it going boom! Anyroad, cheers for the advice, I'll post the official diagnosis tomorrow if anyones interested for future reference. Thanks again.

It will not go boom, if pipe is dripping it proves the safety is working. Might as well ask you landlord to give you a copy of the landlord certificate. Is he one of those chaps who has a look at boilers before he wastes money on a RGI?

If the water is still flowing from the PRP( pressure relief pipe) then maybe the filling loop tap has been knocked open.
