Moved into an old cottage last year and subsequently had mains gas connected and a new boiler and unvented hot water system installed. I'd still like to continue using our oil fired boiler but for cooking and kitchen heating only, therefore the back boiler is now redundent.
I started by speaking to our two local Rayburn specialists and neither seem to really know how to proceed....
Therefore from the research I've done so far, it seems like our options in order of preference are:
1) Remove back boiler entirely and replace with firebricks
2) Leave back boiler in place and fill with sand and uncap pipework
3) Leave back boiler in place and uncap pipework
I presume option 2 and 3 will eventually render the boiler useless for future use but I don't intend to use it again at any point. Option 1 is likely to be better from a thermal performance perspective but really it will depend on how accessible the boiler is.
Can anyone speak from experience on this one or provide any useful feedback? Am I correct in saying that either of these 3 options are are OK from a safety aspect?
