Sorry for yet another Oven / Light / Electrical problem. Wondered if anyone could help.
We moved into our new house just over a year ago, and the power trips are almost daily. We have to constantly go into the garage and flick the green switch back on. Very very rarely in the night the power will go off, and when morning comes freezer has bl00dy defrosted etc!

I think we have narrowed it down to the oven which when we turn it off, the whole power cuts. Also randomly if the conservatory lights (there are three switches - a double and a single) are turned off, the power may trip.

The RCB board we have is a WHRS6604, picture here....

There is a sticker on it saying inspected just over a year ago, when we moved in.

the green stickers, protected are labelled as follows:-
5 - Blank
4 - Sockets Conservatory
3 - Sockets
2 - Sockets
1 - Sockets

The red are labelled:-
5 - Downstairs Lights
4 - Upstairs Lights
3 - Garage Light / Living Room
2 - New Bedroom
1 - Conservatory Lights

When I ask the local sparky in the pub, all he says is turn off your appliances one by one and ill find the fault in the end!
Top advice.

I spoke to the guy we bought the house off, and as expected he says he never had a power cut in 4 years! The oven was here when we moved in, and so was the conservatory.

Sorry to ramble, can anyone shed any light or have any ideas what to buy to test etc etc.

Much appreciated in advance.

at a guess, some numpty has put the conservatory light neutral in the wrong bar.. ( most likely whoever did the last inspection.. removed it to test and put it back in wrong bar.. )

if you can get a photo of yout fuse board with the cover off ( carefully ) then we can take a look and see if we see anything amiss..

When the conservatory light is turned off, does it trip the main RCD or just its own breaker. What sort of lamp is it?

In all fairness, its not bad advice. He has a point.

Start with watery appliances.

And would you like to be interrupted mid-pint with questions about your profession?

To test, turn off and unplug appliances.
Just switching them off often only breaks the live connection, but the fault could be a neutral - earh fault.

A frost free fridge or freezer should be counted amongst the 'watery appliances'. They often run a defrost cycle about once a day, and the melted frost flows into a tray on top of the motor to be evaporated off.

Sometimes the tray overflows onto the motor....
