Rcd lights

Hello,

Have a 16th ed cu (half rcd) I need the upstairs lights to be rcd protected.

It's quite an old board so don't think I can get a rcobo for it.

Would it be deemed acceptable to cut the busbar at supply to said mcb, provide a appropriate size link cable from rcd to mcb? Then swop the neutrals obviously...

sounds rough, i would have thought any split load board still had compatible rcbos available

It's not ideal to say the least, but I've definitely seen it done.

I take it there's no space on the rcd side? And you can't re-configure the board?

What make/type of board is it? You might be surprised

I don't see anything wrong with the method you are suggesting, Paul.

Though, if you move the MCB next to the RCD protected ones, you only need another small bit of busbar.

Thanks all, I didn't think it was the best route but a means to an end.

I'll get the model and take the cover off and have a look, I need to get my meter out and test the rcd before I do anything anyway.

I have fitted a rcd fcu at the CU position to protect Bathroom lights when i can't get an rcbo to fit the board. If it's clearly marked as to the circuit it protects it's not a problem.
