Re pointing… quality of work

Let him take you to the small claims court. I honestly don't think he will, and when you show the judge/magistrate the work, I think the claim will be dismissed. It might be prudent to threaten to take him to court to recover the costs of recifying his shoddy work. Potentially, the costs will be higher than his invoice.

I am not a lawyer... I get the impression that a judge/magistrate will want evidence that you offered him the opportunity to "make good". Based on your last post, he seems to be unwilling to rectify things.

One of my best friends is a pointer. He can look at the existing pointing and work out how much white cement might need to be mixed with the grey cement. Additionally, he is able to source sand with the correct levels of aggregate.

Your guy looked like he used a spoon to apply the mortar. That said, those bricks look like a mare to point- neverther the less, it wasn't a problem for the original brickies.

Thank you. It is a lime mix but i would appreciate any feedback from others, especially in the building trade as i can use responses as evidence that it’s not just me that thinks this. He has also left the mortar in the gravel around the base of the house and several areas of my recently laid sandstone slabs!

Take lots of photo's from different angles showing everything. all the bad points and other areas to show the difference etc.

I would go for removing it best you can soonest.

If it's only that small area in the corner, it won't affect the house price.
Don't pay him, move on and sell your house.
If you're really bothered, try jet washing and steel brushing the bricks there, then repoint.

It is more than this I’m afraid, this goes along the whole front of the house, and the main part is in the wall of the front door entrance! I have arranged for someone else to come and re do the work, they are starting this Saturday. I am holding my ground and won’t be paying.
I have taken lots of photos( which are dated evidence) as he's also claimed that the photos are from before he finished the job which is a total lie. I will also ask the new builder to take photos and videos before he starts work.
Happy to update the group once it’s been to court.

I’d be looking to get payment from him to put his 'work' right. Pay the proper brickie, deduct what he’s asking for and claim the difference.
