Rebuilding a stud wall (Ed.)

I’m renovating a shower to make it larger. With the new dimensions if I want the shower handle on center there is a stud in the way. It’s an exterior load bearing wall. Can I add new studs on both sides of the problem stud and remove it?

Yes but make sure they're a good tight fit.

I’d offset the mixer (assume this is what you mean)? The shower head can be central but the mixer itself can be offset which works quite well anyway …
